As we enter November, I want to encourage us to slow down and recognize God’s goodness. Life gets busy, and it is easy to focus on what needs to be done or what we wish were different. Yet even in difficult seasons, we can bring our concerns to God and look for reasons to give thanks.
“Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!”
— Psalm 107:1 (ESV)
Thankfulness does not mean pretending everything is easy. It means remembering that God is faithful through every season. Some of us are celebrating answered prayers. Others are facing illness, grief, financial pressure, or uncertainty. As a church family, we can make room for both gratitude and sorrow, walking alongside one another with love.
Remember Those Who Serve
This Veterans Day, we thank the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. We also remember those currently serving and the families who support them. Thank you for your courage, commitment, and sacrifice.
Let us pray for their safety, health, and peace—and look for opportunities to offer encouragement and practical support.
Pray for Our Leaders
November is also a reminder to pray for those entrusted with leadership in our nation, communities, and churches. Scripture calls us to pray for people in authority. Whatever our differences, we can ask God to give our leaders wisdom, humility, integrity, and compassion.
May our words reflect Christ, and may our prayers help us approach others with patience and grace.
Turn Gratitude Into Action
At Capital City Church, missions gives us opportunities to put our faith into practice. Serving a meal, encouraging someone in prison, helping a family meet a need, or supporting those sharing the gospel can become an expression of God’s love.
This month, consider these questions:
Who could use a phone call or an encouraging message?
Is there someone you could invite to share a meal?
What time, resources, or abilities could you offer to help someone?
Who can you faithfully pray for throughout November?
Visit our Missions calendar for upcoming opportunities to serve and get involved. Each of us has something to offer, and even a small act of kindness can matter deeply to the person receiving it.
As Thanksgiving approaches, my prayer is that our gratitude will grow beyond a single day. May it shape how we speak, how we notice people, and how we respond to their needs.
A Prayer for November
Heavenly Father, holy and wonderful is Your name. Thank You for Your faithfulness and the love You show us each day.
Let Your will be done in our lives, our church, and our community. Give us eyes to recognize people who need encouragement and willing hearts to serve them.
Provide for families facing hardship. Comfort those who are grieving, strengthen those who are ill, and surround those who feel alone with love. Bless our veterans, those currently serving, and their families. Guide our leaders with wisdom and humility.
Forgive us when busyness keeps us from loving others well. Help us forgive freely, resist temptation, and walk in Your ways.
May our gratitude become generosity, and may our service point others toward Jesus.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
